    08:30 - 09:00 Welcome and introduction

    Session 1 - Introductions

    To each other, to the course, to the IB learner profile and philosophy. This session should help delegates to have a sound overview the requirements of the course. We will do some mathematics and set the scene for how we can meet the demands we have set out.

    11:00 - 12:30

    Session 2 - Internal Assessment 1

    Introduction to the Internal Assessment element of the course, marking and moderating. We will spend some time familiarising ourselves with the nature of the task and the criteria by which it is assessed. Through discussion and exemplification, we aim to put this task in to perspective.

    13:30 - 15:00

    Session 3 - Internal Assessment 2

    Following on from the previous session, we will look at getting projects started, helping students with ideas for projects and management strategies. We will look at good sources for inspiration and examine the process of how to help students take the journey from an area of interest to a project with potential.

    Session 4 - Mathematics that describes the world around us

    This session is about how we achieve the aims that pertain to mathematics as a tool for understanding the world around us. We will look at some of mathematical information that the internet age now inundates us with. We will look at how we bring this in to our classrooms, marry it with the syllabus and develop the desirable skills in students that help them discern and digest!

     

    22 JUNE 2018, FRIDAY
    09:00 - 10:30 Session 5 - Exams

    What are we working towards? Familiarisation with the paper 1 and paper 2 formats for theexternal assessment at the end of the course. Whilst some emphasis is on the technicality of examining, most is on the implications this has for teaching and understanding.

    11:00 - 12:30

    Session 6 - Teaching activities and Task design

    Teaching the course! The most important thing we do. In these sessions, we will be looking at good ideas for teaching the syllabus that help us to really embrace the aims and objectives of the group 5 courses and approaches to teaching and learning. There will be opportunities for idea exchange, trying activities and collaborating with each other.

    Session 8 - Resources

    Books, websites, software and more. We will have a look at the resources we have at our disposal to support the teaching of the course and how they can be used.

    09:00 - 10:30

    Session 9 - The Graphical Display Calculator

    Getting familiar with this important tool for Maths Studies. What can be done? How is it done? This is session will focus on the incredible Importance of students knowing how to use their GDCs and helping teachers with that.

    11:00 - 12:30

    Session 10 - Roundup

    This session is reserved for addressing issues we have not been able to during the workshop, answering remaining questions and a final splurge on good ideas!
