    Brad Philpot

    Brad Philpot, originally from the United States, has lived in the Netherlands since 1997. He earned a Masters in English Literature and Linguistics and an Education degree from the University of Amsterdam. From 2000-2012 Brad taught high-school English in an international setting (US, Turkey, and the Netherlands). Since then Brad has trained over 3,000 teachers of IB world schools. 

    He is author of current and forthcoming textbooks: English Language and Literature for the IB Diploma and English B for the IB Diploma with Cambridge University Press and the online English A: Language and Literature Support Site and the Extended Essay Support Site. In 2008 he founded Philpot Education. Besides examining, consulting and workshop leading, Brad and his team organise workshops on a range of IB Diploma subjects.

    Dr. Hannah Tyson is perhaps the most experienced workshop leader for English A: Literature. She has led two revision committees, facilitated the Literature site on the OCC, and run workshops (live and online) for teachers. She helped create the Literature and Performance course and is currently its Chief Examiner. Besides her range of examining experience, she has co-authored two books on the Literature course. Dr. Tyson's advanced degrees have focused on medieval and 18th century literature. Her dissertation was on Robert Lowell. After a long career with the United World College in New Mexico, she has retired in Washington, D.C, where she continues her work for the IB.

    Mark Beverley as taught IB Language A: Literature since 1998, initially at the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore, where he was Head of English. In 2008 he transferred to Sevenoaks School in the UK, where he is Curriculum Manager and teaches both Language A: Literature and Literature and Performance, as well as TOK. He is the co-author of the Course Companion and Skills and Practices textbooks for Literature A, both published by Oxford University Press and co-wrote the online Literature workshop.  He has led many workshops both online and face to face in various countries throughout Asia and Europe. He has a range of examining experience.

    Liz Stephan Liz Stephan taught IB Literature for many years at St John’s International School Belgium and subsequently at Hockerill Anglo-European College in the UK. She also taught IB Theatre Arts and Drama at St Johns. Liz has worked with Oxford Study Courses for 16 years teaching ‘Mid IB’ and Exam Revision courses, also Writing, Oral Presentation, and Extended Essay courses.

    Liz has been leading IB Literature workshops for over 20 years and has worked for most of the training Providers. She is especially interested in teaching approaches that make literature accessible and memorable, leading to more engaged, confident and effective teacher and student performance. 

    In 1996 she was given a Fellowship from Corpus Christi College Cambridge to write a teacher handbook for IB Literature. Subsequently she wrote two IB Literature study and revision guides for Oxford Study Courses (2003 and 2013). Most recently she contributed a chapter on teaching poetry to the Oxford University Press IB series Perspectives on Planning Teacher Companion: English A Literature.

    Liz has a wide range of examining experience, focusing particularly on Internal Assessment.
